BeforeAfter ✦There is no single breast lift — the technique is chosen to match your degree of sagging (ptosis), skin quality and breast size. Your surgeon selects the incision pattern that achieves the lift you need with the least possible scarring.
Your surgeon examines the degree of ptosis, skin elasticity and nipple position, then explains which incision pattern — around the areola, lollipop or anchor — will achieve your goal. If you also want more volume, a combined lift-plus-implant plan is discussed.
Blood tests and a breast examination (with ultrasound where indicated) are completed at the hospital. The surgical markings are drawn while you are standing, as breast position changes when lying down.
Under general anesthesia, excess skin is removed, the internal breast tissue is reshaped and lifted, and the nipple-areola complex is moved to its new, higher position while staying attached to its blood and nerve supply. The operation takes two to three hours.
You spend one night in the hospital. A supportive surgical bra is fitted immediately, and most patients walk comfortably the same evening.

A breast lift is designed for healthy women who are happy with their breast volume but not its position or shape. It may be right for you if you:
A lift removes skin, not significant breast tissue, so your cup size stays roughly the same. Because the tissue is reshaped and sits higher, many patients feel their breasts look perkier and more proportionate even at the same volume. If you also want more fullness, an implant can be added in the same operation.
Scar pattern depends on the technique: a circle around the areola, a "lollipop" adding a vertical line, or an "anchor" adding a line in the breast fold for more advanced sagging. The nipple stays connected to its underlying nerves and blood supply during a lift, so permanent loss of sensation is uncommon. Temporary numbness or hypersensitivity in the first weeks is normal and usually resolves as the nerves recover.
Many women can, because the milk ducts largely remain connected. However, no surgeon can guarantee it, and results vary with the technique used. If you are planning children soon, it is often better to postpone the lift until after your last pregnancy, since pregnancy itself can change the result.
The lift itself is long-lasting, but your breasts continue to age naturally and respond to gravity, weight changes and pregnancy. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing supportive bras helps preserve the result for many years. Most patients enjoy their improved shape for a decade or more.
It depends on what bothers you. If the position is the problem but you are happy with your size, a lift alone is ideal. If you want more fullness — especially in the upper part of the breast — a combined lift with implants achieves both in a single operation. Your surgeon will examine you and recommend honestly what serves your goal.
