Overly large breasts are not just an aesthetic concern — they can cause chronic back and neck pain, skin irritation and real limits on sport and daily life. Breast reduction performed by our board-certified plastic surgeons in Istanbul removes excess tissue and lifts the breast in a single operation, combining physical relief with a beautifully proportioned result.

BeforeAfter ✦The operation is planned around how much volume you want to lose and where your breast tissue sits. Your surgeon designs the new breast around a safe blood supply to the nipple, so the reduced breast is not only smaller but naturally shaped and lifted.
You discuss your target size and physical complaints with your surgeon, who examines breast composition, measures key distances and explains the expected scar pattern. Photos and, where indicated, breast imaging complete the assessment.
Blood work and an anesthesia review are done at the hospital the day before surgery. Surgical markings are drawn while standing to plan exactly how much tissue will be removed from each breast.
Under general anesthesia, excess tissue, fat and skin are removed and the breast is reshaped around a preserved pedicle carrying the nipple's blood supply. The nipple is moved to its new, higher position and the areola resized if desired. The operation takes 2.5–4 hours.
You stay one to two nights in hospital. Small drains, if used, are typically removed before discharge. Most patients report the relief in their back and shoulders is noticeable almost immediately.
Your surgeon reviews the incisions and fits your surgical bra before discharge, with a final check before your flight. Aftercare continues remotely through scheduled photo reviews with our medical team.

Breast reduction is suitable for healthy women whose breast size causes physical discomfort or restricts daily life. You may be a good candidate if you:
That depends on your anatomy and goals. Most patients go down two to four cup sizes. Your surgeon will advise the reduction that relieves your symptoms while keeping a natural shape and a safe blood supply to the nipple — the aim is proportion, not simply the smallest possible size.
For pain caused by breast weight, the improvement is usually significant and often felt within days of surgery. Clinical studies consistently show breast reduction ranks among the procedures with the highest patient-reported improvement in quality of life. Pain from unrelated spinal conditions, however, will not be affected.
Most reductions use the anchor pattern: around the areola, vertically down to the fold, and along the fold itself. In smaller reductions a vertical-only (lollipop) pattern may be possible. Scars are pink at first and typically fade into fine lines over 12–18 months with proper care.
It may be possible, as modern techniques keep the nipple attached to milk ducts, but it cannot be guaranteed — some women produce less milk after reduction. If future breastfeeding matters to you, tell your surgeon so the technique can be chosen accordingly, or consider timing surgery after your last pregnancy.
The removed tissue does not return. However, significant weight gain, pregnancy or hormonal changes can enlarge the remaining tissue. Maintaining a stable weight is the best way to preserve your result long term.
Yes. As standard practice, tissue removed during breast reduction is sent for histopathological examination. This is a routine safety step and the results are shared with you in your discharge report.
Light walking starts immediately. Low-impact lower-body exercise usually resumes around week 3–4, and full activity — including running and chest training — at about 6–8 weeks with your surgeon's approval. Many patients find sport far more comfortable than before surgery.
